In today's digital world, online fitness training has emerged as a popular way for people to achieve their health and fitness objectives. Virtual coaching offers flexibility, allowing individuals to work out at home or anywhere else. However, not all trainers are equally effective. Here's my guide to getting a successful online fitness trainer.

1. Strong Communication Skills

Effective communication is vital for online fitness trainers. Do you click with this person?

Online trainers depend on having that rapport with their clients. They must provide clear instructions, constructive feedback, and motivating messages through digital platforms.

In my experience, you'll know very quickly if you just get on with someone. Try them out for a session and see if it works both ways. I learned quickly in my career who the right clients are for me. That's why I stick to 40s+ professionals because I speak their language, and I worked in corporate middle management roles for 20 years.

If you're after a pure gym bunny, I'm definitely not your guy.

2. Personalised Approach

Each client has distinct fitness goals, preferences, and limitations. A successful online fitness trainer recognises this diversity and adopts a personalised approach to their training. They invest time in understanding each client's unique needs and tailor their programs accordingly.

I work in a hybrid method, either from Milton Keynes or London Liverpool Street studios. Here I test your cortisol hormone (regulates energy/fat loss), muscle, bone, fat, metabolism and chronic inflammation, blood sugar.

Once I've got this information, I'll build a bespoke plan to help you burn fat and get lean. This is unique in the UK.

3. Knowledge and Expertise

A strong base of knowledge in fitness and nutrition is essential for online trainers. Clients seek guidance from trainers who are well-versed in exercise science and dietary principles. Successful online fitness trainers often hold relevant certifications and actively pursue continuing education opportunities.

I am a level 3 personal trainer, nutrition coach, hypnotherapist, Bulletproof Biohacking coach and current 2025 Online Trainer of the Year for London and South East. This allows me to really coach people and break down their unconscious blockers that have stopped them from getting into shape in other programs.

4. Technological Proficiency

In an online environment, technological proficiency is crucial for fitness trainers. They must be comfortable using various digital tools and platforms to deliver their services effectively. This includes video conferencing software, fitness apps, and social media platforms.

I use an AI-driven app that looks at your markers tested above and then helps me work out how to adjust your macros and exercise to get you into top shape.

5. Empathy and Support

Empathy is a vital attribute for any fitness trainer, especially in an online setting where clients may feel isolated. Successful online trainers show real care and support for their clients, understanding the emotional aspects of fitness journeys.

I used to be extremely overweight, a heavy smoker/drinker, so I've been there. I learned by trial and error how to get into shape. I'm definitely not your average PT who hasn't been put of shape.

Final Thoughts

The world of online fitness training is constantly changing, and successful trainers must embody a specific set of qualities to thrive. There are plenty of drill sergeants out there who do inappropriate diets/exercise for over-40s. I'll help you because I've been exactly where you are and I coach using your bespoke data.
